Horsemanship, Skill Showcased At Oklahoma 4-H Horse Show

STILLWATER - Seventeen 4-H club members outdistanced 250 other competitors in a test of skill, poise and horsemanship to earn top honors at the 1996 Oklahoma State 4-H Horse Show June 22-25 at Shawnee.

High-point awards were presented in four categories: Western, English, Timed Event and Stall.

Christie Crawford, Custer County, earned champion honors in the Western Awards, age 15-19 category. Cristen Mireles, Payne County, earned reserve champion honors.

Breck Roberts, Rogers County, was the first-place winner in the Western Awards, age 12-14 category. Kayla Elmenhorst, Canadian County, was named reserve champion.

Heather Thomas, Tulsa County, won the first of two champion honors in the Western Awards, age 9-11 category. Mandi McClung, Harper County, earned reserve champion honors. Thomas also received first place in the English Awards, age 9-11 category. Brandi Thomas, Tulsa County, finished second.

Mica Edwards, Beckham County, and Leigh Taylor, Rogers County, earned champion and reserve champion honors, respectively, in the English Awards, age 12-14 category.

Megan Patterson, Oklahoma County, earned champion honors in the English Awards, age 15-19 category. Kristen Thomas, Tulsa County, finished second.

Champion honors in the Timed Events Awards were presented to Sara Phelps (15-19), Stephens County; Tisha Burress (12-14), Muskogee County; and Jennifer Jones (9-11), Washington County. Reserve champion honors went to Dusty Johnson (15-19), Woodward County; Dusty Oxford (12-14), Kay County; and Clint Peverly (9-11), Rogers County.

The champion and reserve champion 4-H clubs in the Stall Awards competition were Garfield County and Rogers County, respectively. The Kay County and Lincoln County 4-H horse clubs were given honorable mention.
